Neuromodulator Injections in Calgary

Provided by Market Mall Dermatology
It’s time to smooth out your wrinkles and slow down the signs of ageing without impacting your natural look or daily routine. We offer a wide range of specialized neuromodulator treatments including Botulinum toxin (botox), Xeomin and Dysport and Nuceiva within our clinic, allowing you to alter your skin the way you want it to look.

When considering having any type of neuromodulator treatment we always stress the importance of having it completed by a fully qualified physician. At Market Mall Dermatology our team consists of board certified dermatologist Dr. Stewart Adams, who performs all of our injection treatments personally, with support from his team of highly qualified nurses and estheticians. They undergo continuous training to ensure they are up to date with the most modern injecting techniques and procedures and developments in the field of dermatology as a whole. This ensures that you will receive only the highest standard of care as our patient whilst also receiving the best, natural looking results.

What are neuromodulator injections?

As we grow older, there are a wide range of different factors that cause wrinkles and facial lines. In general, our skin will begin to thin, dry out and become less elastic, which makes us significantly more prone to wrinkle development. In addition to this, the repeated muscle contractions from actions such as squinting, raising your eyebrows and frowning can cause a folding in the skin, which results in the formation of wrinkles and facial lines.

Our neuromodulator and neurotoxin treatments such as Botulinum toxin or Xeomin utilize a special neuromodulator, injected into the muscle with a very fine needle. After this process, the neuromodulator causes the transmission of motor signals from the nerves to be stopped for a temporary time period. As these nerves are stopped, the muscles in that particular area are no longer able to contract which causes the softening of wrinkles. As a result, the visibility of wrinkles are reduced altogether, which can make skin appear younger.

How It’s done

No matter which neuromodulator treatment you choose from, your experience should be the same. The treatment itself is completed within around 10 minutes and no anaesthetic is needed for the procedure as there is very little discomfort throughout the process.

Before your treatment, it is important to call us in advance so that you can book your free consultation with our team. During this consultation Dr. Adams will review your past medical history, ensuring that you do not have any lifestyle or medical conditions that would be a contraindication for treatment. In this case, you will be informed during your consultation.

During your consultation, we will discuss your expectations for the treatment (which will also be double-checked prior to your treatment). This will allow our team time to organize what we need to provide you with a flawless experience. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have, as well as address any concerns. Our team will be more than happy to provide you with the answers that you require. In order to get the very best out of this consultation, we advise that you prepare a list of any medical conditions, allergies or medication that you have recently taken. You can also write down any questions that you may have, allowing us to provide you with peace of mind before your treatment.

After your consultation, you will be provided with a time and date that you can have your procedure, which can be booked around your personal schedule.

HAVE A QUESTION OR CONCERN?

Our experienced team is standing by to help answer all of your questions.

    What To Expect

Before your scheduled treatment, our team of professionals will discuss what you aim to achieve from your treatment. They will then begin with a facial analysis, in which they will determine which areas of your face require treatment. The process itself is relatively painless, with many of our patients describing our Botulinum toxin or Xeomin injections as feeling like a light pinch.

After your treatment has been completed, it is common for our patients to have a small amount of redness around the area in which the injection was made. The results themselves are not instant. They have a gradual impact and will take effect between 3 and 14 days after your initial treatment. Due to the nature of the treatment, there is minimal downtime which allows you to continue your daily routine without the stress of having to miss a day of work.

Neuromodulator treatments have been approved by Health Canada approved for the treatment of frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), smile lines, and forehead wrinkles, as well as for the treatment of TMJ and Hyperhidrosis, and have been used by millions of individuals all around the globe.

Our expert treatments will have you looking fantastic for your age with a wide range of benefits.

    The Treatment Process

The treatment process itself is relatively stress-free and should be completed within 10 minutes. This means that you can book in a session during a lunch break, after work or even before work if required. At the start of your treatment, your skin will be cleaned professionally by one of our team, ensuring that all dirt is removed from the area. Then, once your face has been thoroughly cleaned the botulinum toxin will be injected into your muscles using a very fine needle. Depending on what treatment you are having, you may require injections in different areas of your face.

In order to find the best place to make the injection, you may be asked to move the muscles in your face, such as frowning, raising your eyebrowns, smiling etc. This will allow our team to locate the most optimal area, allowing our injection to have the greatest impact with as few treatments as possible.

After the treatment, the area in which the needle was used may be a little red, however, you should not experience much pain, if any pain at all. Our team will then inform you that the treatment has been finished, as well as provide you with any post care information that may be applicable for your particular neuromodulator treatment. After leaving our clinic you will be able to go about your daily routine as usual, with no downtime following the procedure.

They must also be physically healthy with no prior history of neuromuscular diseases. Such diseases include multiple sclerosis or myasthenia gravis. Candidates must also be at least 18 years old and should not be pregnant at the time of the procedure. Dr. Adams and his team will review your medical history during your consultation to ensure you are eligible for treatment.
In the unlikely event that neuromodulators not be right for you, Market Mall Dermatology offers many other great medical, cosmetic, and laser treatments to help you reduce the look of lines and wrinkles, rejuvenate and beautify your skin.

What Do I Need To Do To Prepare?

To prepare for your appointment, there are a few steps that we would recommend to make your session as successful and stress free as possible.

Firstly, we advise that you be sure to ask any questions you may have about the procedure during your consult. We understand that neuromodulator injections may make some individuals very nervous, especially before their first session. We believe that education on our procedures is an important part helping our patients feel comfortable, and reducing any possible stress or worry they may be feeling. Make your first session at a time that is most convenient for you so that you do not feel rushed before your appointment. Book your appointment around your lifestyle, and if possible during a period where you have no other obligations such as work.

If you are an individual who smokes cigarettes, we also advise that you stop smoking before your appointment. Smoking prior to your appointment can significantly increase the risk of bruising during the procedure, as well as cause complications that will slow down the healing process. We advise that you inform one of our professionals if you smoke, as they will be able to inform you of how long you should avoid cigarettes before your treatment.

One final suggestion that we would make in order to prepare for your appointment, is to take good care of your skin. In order to do this, we highly recommend that you carefully cleanse your skin before your appointment. Your skin needs to be free of dirt, moisturizers and cosmetics before we begin your appointment. The best way to do this is to wash your face thoroughly using a cleanser, soap and moisturizer, then dry your face with a soft clean towel.

By following these three steps, you are setting yourself up for a successful session in which you will receive the very best results. If you have any questions about other actions you can take before your appointment, please feel free to ask our team directly.

    What Aftercare Is Required?

Whilst there is no downtime regarding your neuromodulator treatment, there are a number of recommendations that we would suggest so that you can get the very best results from your treatment.

It is important that you do not rub or massage the treated area for at least four hours after the initial treatment, this also includes facials, as this can significantly impact your results. It is also important that you keep upright for the first 4 hours after your treatment. Do not go to sleep or lay down on your front or side and avoid any headwear that is tight around your forehead as this will impact your results.

In addition to this, we also recommend that you avoid any strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours after your treatment. Strenuous exercise is likely to impact the muscles on your face, which could result in a negative effect regarding your treatment, especially if you were to accidentally knock your face on any object.

It is also important that you avoid any alcohol or blood-thinning medication for 24 hours after your treatment. Both of these substances can cause excessive bruising which will slow down the rate at which you recover.

How Long Will Your Results Last?

Neuromodulator treatment is not a permanent solution. The time that results last for will depend from patient to patient, however it is estimated that they will last between three and six months in total. As the muscle action begins to return to your face, the lines and wrinkles will also begin to reappear, and therefore another treatment may be required. However, it is important to note that whilst the lines and wrinkles will reappear, they often appear significantly less severe with time as the muscles themselves begin to shrink. Therefore, as you have more treatments, it is likely that your treatments will last for longer periods of time.

Is It Possible To Neuromodulator Injections?

Unfortunately, at the present time there is no way to reverse the effect of Neuromodulator treatment. This is why we always recommend having your Neuromodulator injections performed by a board certified dermatologist with years of expereicne in the field, and an up to date knowledge on the field of neurotoxins and modulators.

Although there is no known antidote to the injections, there are a number of potential solutions that you may consider if you are unhappy with the results that you have received from neuromodulator injections in the past.

If you have recently undergone treatment and realize that your crow’s feet, expression lines, or wrinkles have been reduced on one side significantly more than the other, we can help. Dr. Adams can ‘even out’ the effects of the previous neuromodulator treatment. During this process, they will re-treat the lesser affected side of your face.

"I was worried that if I got Botox done that I may look unnatural or unable to move where I get treated. But I was also unhappy with the wrinkles that were forming on my forehead. I'm happy to say Dr. Adams answered all of my questions prior to treatment, and that even though I had the Botox treatment, I can still move my brows and be as expressive as always. Just with fewer wrinkles."
